Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) Alternate Mix

Okay, this first upload is an alternate mix of Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) from the Pet Sounds album, featuring the "Vocal Snippet". I had been looking for a similar version, but couldn't find it... So I decided to do it myself.

It might sound surprising, but this actually required a bit of work. The vocal snippet is way faster than the song, so I've had to slow down the vocal snippet... But then, the parts wouldn't match! In fact, after dividing the snippet in 7 or 8 parts, I had to slow down some parts of the snippet more than others, to make the whole thing listenable. It took me about an hour, but I'm quite satisfied with the result. The surprise comes at around 00:53!

Enjoy and please let me know what you think!

Hey that's great! I recognize the snippet, which is great even by itself. But how did you know where to put it? I don't think I've read anything about where that was supposed to be used.
Also, what program did you use? I have Sound Forge, and I'll have to see if I can duplicate what you did. Thanks for your blog!

I have Sound Forge as well! And at first I thought that the snippet would fit in the instrumental part... And I was proved wrong. I had to "virtually" (= "in my head") modify the tempo of the snippet, and the only place it could fit in was the place where it is now.

If you're interested I can just post the modified snippet!

Sure, that would be great to hear just the snippet.

By the way, on the original snippet recording that was released as a bonus track, Brian is first heard singing his part solo. Did you use that too, or do you think Brian had already mixed it into the group vocal snippet?

This is giving me ideas for putting my SMiLE mixes together.

thanks again!

I think the second part of the "vocal snippet" already features the first part sung by Brian, so I just used the second part...

I'll upload the modified snippet soon!

Sounds good. I think Brian's band does it on the live version of Pet Sounds concert and CD

This makes the song even better! I love it.

I love it! Wish he had kept it in the song.

I created one of these for personal use long ago. I found the most effective way to work on it was to stretch out the initial file "as needed" and not break it up at all.

I tried doing it this way, but the tempo doesn't match - to get a good enough result, you have to modify the tempo on some parts of the snippet.

My previous post might not be clear enough - what I meant was that the result can't be perfect if you just "stretch" the snippet. You have to stretch some parts more than others!

Hey, i guess this is relevant here.... do you know where i can find the boot of Brian layering the vocals to this? It's hinted at on the Pet Sounds box, but apparently theres one which has each overdub on it....
Thanks :)
